Tools for small group ministry

There are lots of great tools.  At the bottom of the page is list of books and websites, with JG's notes.  The resources John recommends most often:

  • For basic training of group leaders -- Buddy Bell's video series on Small Group leadership.  Contact Buddy Bell at Landmark Church of Christ in Montgomery, Alabama.  (334) 277-5800.  (Not available in stores.)
  • For helping leaders stay sharp -- Carl F. George, Nine Keys to Effective Small Group Leadership. Mansfield, PA: Kingdom, 1997.
  • For leading a small group ministry -- Lots of good authors.  Start with Joel Comiskey, How to be a Great Cell Group Coach.  Houston:  Touch Outreach Ministries, 2003.  Good perspective on helping leaders succeed.
  • All-in-one resource -- Bill Donahue, Leading Life-changing Small Groups.  Grand Rapids:  Zondervan, 1996.  Donahue describes the Willow Creek model, and gives a total perspective on building a small group ministry.
  • Curriculum -- College Hills posts guides for each group meeting.  John Grant has written over 400 Bible study guides that he is willing to share.  Contact John Grant.  Some of the best-known publishers are WillowCreek.com, Navpress.com and Serendipity House.  On those, the quality varies with the author, and some studies that work with one group will not work with another.
  • Best books to make you think -- Check out the Frazee and Myers books below.
