Hiking 4 Water we're hiking so they don't have to ... The Need … Did you know that one third of the world's population live in Water Crisis countries? Over two million people die every year due to water borne illnesses, that’s almost 4 per minute! Millions of women and children hike an average of about 4 miles per day to fetch water, and the water they get is extremely polluted. We go to the sink and get a glass of water. We take a shower and cook our food by just turning on the faucet. Now imagine walking four miles to fill up a jug of water that will be your family’s only source of water for the day. Now imagine further that the reservoir where you go to get this water is the same one in which cows and other animals bathe. Then imagine you or your family members contracting intestinal infection from parasites, dysentery, hepatitis, or typhoid fever. Now imagine that someone has the resources to help give you clean water, and they do … would it make a difference in your life? Who We Are ...Hiking 4 Water is a group of young backpackers/hikers dedicated to providing clean drinking water to those who do not have it. In order to raise money for drilling Water Wells and raise awareness, the group will be hiking the entire length of the Appalachian Trail in segments being in the Summer of 2007 and planning to complete the full 2,174 mile journey in 2010. Hiking 4 Water has partnered with Healing Hands International, a non-profit humanitarian aid organization headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, in this effort to help provide others with clean drinking water. Why Sponsor Us ...Every dollar raised by Hiking 4 Water will be used for the construction of water wells by Healing Hands International. First a site is chosen in a particular country. Next the drilling and building of the actual well begins. Then the people have a daily source of fresh clean water to use in their homes and fields each day. By sponsoring Hiking 4 Water you can assist us in bringing life and hope to thousands of people world wide. We do this all for the glory of God.
