CELL PHONE USER AGREEMENT
Cell phone usage is a privilege and a responsibility. Like any tool, a cell phone can be used to honor God and help people, or it can be misused to hurt people. These guidelines can make it a positive addition to our lives.
1. Cell phone safety and security
-
If you witness a crime or an accident with injuries, call 911. Call one of your parents immediately after calling 911.
-
If you are involved in a traffic accident, help with injuries as much as you can and then take pictures of all vehicles involved, including license plates.
-
Let your parents know about any unwanted or suspicious calls. You have permission to block unwanted callers (except your parents).
-
Never give your phone number to people you do not know.
-
Never publish your phone number on an internet page (i.e. Facebook, MySpace, etc.).
-
Reply to text messages only from people you know.
-
Do not text or talk on your phone while driving.
-
Do not allow others to take your phone out of your sight.
-
Always answer calls or texts from parents. If you are unable to talk, send a text message as soon as possible.
-
On school nights, the phone should be turned off by 9:30 PM and before going to bed on weekends and in the summer. This time may be adjusted as parents determine.
2. Cell phone etiquette
-
Give priority to people you are with (in person) rather than someone on the phone. Consider how other people feel when you take or make a call.
-
Phone should be silenced or turned off in places where it will disturb people, especially church, movie theaters, restaurants, school programs, etc.
-
No texting or using phone during church or class.
-
Use at school should always respect school policy.
-
Avoid prolonged or private conversations where people can eavesdrop or are forced to listen (i.e. waiting rooms, check-out lines, public restrooms, etc.).
3. Camera phone
-
Do not take pictures of people without their knowledge and permission.
-
Never take a picture of anyone who is undressed or partially dressed. If somebody sends you an inappropriate photo, notify one of your parents or a trusted adult.
4. Cost
-
Cell phone service for the first year is a birthday gift from the parents.
-
Our plan includes unlimited texting.
-
Our plan includes a limited number of talking minutes. If one person’s excessive usage results in charges, he/she is expected to bear the extra cost.
Failure to follow these guidelines may result in temporary or permanent loss of phone privileges.
